Frequently Asked Questions
Service Application
- I live outside of Tokyo, but can I get assistance from MyToyota.jp?
- As MyToyota.jp is sponsored by TOYOTA dealers in the Tokyo area, our service is basically limited to non-Japanese residents / workers in Tokyo. For customers living outside of Tokyo, we would like to do our best to assist you, however, your kind understanding will be appreciated in case we cannot accommodate your request due to high volume of demand from customers in Tokyo.
- I want to import or bring a vehicle back to my country. Can you help me?
- Sorry, Lexus vehicles are made compliant with Japanese standards and our sales are based on the assumption that the car will be used domestically. As each country has different specifications for vehicles and different auto parts are applied, we cannot assist our customers with vehicle transport due to issues concerning safety standards, emission control, specification environment and any possible compliance as well as warranty.
- I want to resell my car. Can you help me?
- Yes, we have dealers specializing in trade in vehicles.
- Can you arrange a test drive for me?
- Yes, we will locate your local Lexus dealer and arrange a visit / test drive for you. Though the test drive vehicle may not come with a color or options of your preference, we will request the dealership to find a vehicle that is close to your requirements. In case of test driving a pre-owned vehicle, we recommend to schedule your visit as soon as possible because they are sold on a first come, first served basis. Please contact MtToyota.jp Customer Service for more information. Please have your valid driver's license ready for test drive.
Vehicles
- Do you have left-hand drive vehicles?
- All Lexus vehicles sold at Lexus dealers in Japan are right-hand drive vehicles. Please be advised that there are no exceptions for foreign diplomats.
Finance
- What kind of finance options do you have?
- Lexus dealers have both lease and loan options including balloon payment plan. Please contact us for more information as the details of the contract vary depending on a vehicle.
Dealership
- I want to visit a dealership to see some cars. Can you suggest which one to go to?
- Yes, we will direct you to the right dealership based on your home or work address. If you are looking for a used vehicle, you will be asked to visit a dealership where the vehicle is stored.
Insurance & Warranty
- What is covered by the warranty?
- In general, the warranty from the maker covers everything except tires, batteries, consumable parts, oil etc. for five years (if mileage is less than 100,000 km).
Purchasing
- What kind of documents do I need to prepare in advance for car purchase?
- Basically, you need to prepare the following two things:
- 1)Certificate of Signature (or Certificate of Personal Seal)
- 2)Certificate of Vehicle Parking Space Use
- I don't have a personal seal. Do I need to have one for registering a vehicle?
- No, it is not necessary. If you can go to the embassy of your country and get a certificate of your signature, it can be used as a substitute.
Sales for Diplomats
- I am a foreign diplomat. Am I eligible for a tax exemption on a vehicle purchase?
- You may or may not. You will have to check your eligibility with a corresponding department of your embassy or consulate to find out whether you are eligible or not. As it is commonly known, a tax exemption is applied to eligible foreign diplomats and they are exempted from all taxes imposed on a vehicle in Japan. This is not a special offer from a car dealer but this is a privilege given by the Japanese government.
Taxes to be exempted are...
- 1) Consumption Tax
- 2) Automobile Tax
- 3) Automobile Weight Tax
- 4) Automobile Acquisition Tax
Besides taxes, Automobile Safety Inspection and Deposit on Recycling Fee are also exempted items. The Compulsory Automobile Liability Insurance is required and without the insurance, a blue plate (the special number plate for diplomats) will not be issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
- Why Lexus dealers do not offer a special discount for diplomats as some import car dealers?
- Some car manufacturers may set the MSRP (Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price) relatively high assuming the possible price haggling by customers. Lexus's pricing policy is very fair and straightforward. We believe that it is important for us to gain customer confidence by avoiding this kind of tricky sales strategies. As the result, it may seem that Lexus offers a small discount on vehicle price, but it is actually just that our MSRP is already set relatively low compared to some competitors.
After-Sales Service
- Can we contact you for after-sales service and in case of emergency?
- Our service is basically up to introduction of dealers and the service may get extended until vehicle delivery upon request. As for the service after the sales, your dealer will be the contact. In case of emergency, please contact the appropriate institution such as JAF (i.e. locked your key in the car) or police for more serious situation and then call your insurance company. JAF and some insurance companies have a toll-free English service.
