The following is a basic inspection schedule of TOYOTA’s free services and legal inspections.

  1. TOYOTA's Free Inspections

    Simple check-ups, which takes approximately one hour. There are two free inspections: 1st Month Inspection and 6th Month Inspection.

  2. Legal Inspections

    Legally stipulated inspections,12 months Inspection, is required to be done every year. Though, the contents are similar to the 1st month Inspection, this one will be charged.

  3. Shaken

    Shaken is a statutory car inspection which all vehicles must go through every two years in Japan (in case of new vehicle, 3 years after the purchasing date) . The purpose for this inspection is to ensure that the vehicle complies with safety regulations, emissions, etc. Under the Japanese law, the vehicle cannot be driven on roads unless it passes shaken. Make sure to always keep the certificate of vehicle inspection in your car.

    Prior to Shaken, please prepare the following items.

    1. Vehicle Inspection Certificate (Shakensho):Vehicle Inspection Certificate proves that your car has been inspected and complies with the safety regulation. It is obligated to carry the certificate whenever you drive the car.
    2. Certificate of Compulsory Automobile Liability Insurance (Jibaiseki Hoken Shomeisho):It is obligated by Automobile Liability Security Law to purchase Compulsory Automobile Liability Insurance at the time of your vehicle purchase and carry the certificate in the car when you drive.
    3. Personal Seal (Inkan)
    4. Proof of Automobile Tax Payment / Certificate of Automobile Tax (Jidosha Nozel Shomeisho):This document certifies the payment of Automobile Tax on your current car. Because Automobile Tax is paid annually, you will get a refund if you trade-in or sell your car before the end of the year (March).
