Double your fun in Tokyo with TOYOTA
roadmap
It's the perfect season for sports. In this issue, we are introducing places where you can take advantage of this pleasant season to get some exercise before hibernation of winter.
Route 246 leads to Komazawa Olimpic Park. The small minimum turning radius of Ractis enables the body to make turns and park in small spaces
easily. The wide back door and the big luggage space make it easy to put baggage in and take them out. Get your outfit, and towel in a bag and
let's go!
Komazawa Olympic Park is the Mecca of sports. At the time of Tokyo Olympic in 1964, soccer, wrestling, hockey and volley ball games were held in
this park. You will see the official uniforms of athletes and medals they won displayed at the Tokyo Olympic Memorial Gallery.
A 2.148 km jogging course around the park is surrounded by greens. The moderate up-hills and down hills will keep you from getting bored and make sure to use different muscles of your legs. Also, there is a bike trails parallel to the jogging course. In the indoor training room, there are state of the art machine as well as locker rooms and shower rooms.
Masahiro Endo, a former national soccer team player, teaches soccer to elementary school kids at the gymnasium of this park. According to Mr. Endo, the basic training is essential and is the best strategy in soccer and he built various curriculums based on the principle. His goal is not only teaching soccer skills but also making kids mentally well-adjusted and courageous. Mr. Endo's dream is to make his students' pure dreams of becoming a star player someday come true and through communication with his students on what is indispensable for it, together, tries to get closer to their dreams.
There is a giant market called Lonowa Komazawa, which was just opened this last May near Komazawa Park. The first floor is for food shopping. Organic produce such as vegetable, fruits, eggs, dairy products etc from their selected farms are neatly displayed. Everything from fresh deli items, baked goods to fish and meat are domestic produce. Freshly baked breads are delivered from a bakery, which uses the same flour that is sold on the first floor of the market every morning. There are some vegetables and kinds of prosciutto / jamon that are onlyavailable here. There is an Italian restaurant / cafe on the second floor of Lonowa Komazawa. The menu changes depending on what is in season or available.
A confiture specialty store where Hironobu Tsujiguchi, a well-known confectioner, makes stubble like baumkuchen made of rice powder instead of regular flour. The texture is very moisture and very soft. The sugar coating with a hint of ram make it good and special.
Other than baumkuchen, a variety of rich confitures filled with seasonal fruits are recommended. There are kinds that are only available when the ingredients are in season and also, some of them are made of ingredients such as azuki and maccha that are generally used for Japanese sweets.
Ractis looks small from the exterior, but its seating capacity is 5 people and the interior space is much bigger than you can imagine from the exterior. The trunk also is spacious.

That can enjoy rainy days!
Let's move to the city center from the quiet residential area. In the middle of Shibuya, there is a bouldering gym. Bouldering is on the rise in Japan. It is a kind of rock climbing and you will need to climb a wall with many stone like holds without help of a rope. You are supposed to grab holds with your hands or step on them with your feet in order to get to the top according to the rules. The rules are quite simple. Beginners can step on any holds but grab only certain holds by hands (intermediate level people only use limited holds). Just by turning your body to a different direction, you will have many different routes to reach the top. It is not only a work out for your arms and upper body, but also for your brain!
There is a hot yoga place close to Shibuya station. Hot yoga studio, LAVA, has a room that is shared and used for both men and women.Yoga is not a hard exercise but when the room temperature is 38 degree celsius and the humidity is 65%, we will sweat like a pig. Not only it rises the body temperature and helps our metabolism, it is also good for stiff shoulders and anti-aging. Through abdominal respiration, yoga uses an inner muscle effectively. Generally, one sweats approximately 2 litters during a lesson.
After working out, it may be a good idea to go to Jinbo-cho for shopping. There are many stores specializing in work-out outfit, sports equipment and other sports related items in the area. We found a shop that sells customized sole depending on the training menu and shape of the feet. They will take pictures of your feet while you are running and analyze them with 3D measuring instrument in order to create a perfect pair of sole for your feet. They also customize soles for your business shoes and according to the store staff, they will prevent your feet from feeling fatigue after a busy day of work.
So peaceful and relaxing... you will forget that you areSetagaya in Tokyo
There is a giant hot spring near Futako Tamagawa called Seta Hot Spring “Sanga no yu” and we decided to go there for finale. The natural hot spring is located in a vast land (approximately 13,200 ㎡), which used to be possessed by the Tokugawa Shogun family. You will not believe that such a humongous hot spring existed in Tokyo. As the open-air spa is surrounded by trees that are more than 300 years old, you will be totally relaxed listening to birdsong. There are open-殿ir bathes for each men and women and also mixed bath (swim suit required for mixed bath). The spring water is welled up from as far as 1700 meter below ground. It is said to be fossil seawater from the ancient Tokyo Bay. As for the efficacy, it is supposed to be good for bacterial killing and retaining moisture on our skin as well as skin disease and gynecological disease. A variety of bath types are available such as Uchiyu (inside bath), Neyu (sleeping bath), jacuzzi, Mizuyu (cold water bath) and sauna.
Seats of Ractis are set relatively higher than other models, and that provided us a good visibility and easy driving on the road. The transmission is 7 Speed sequential shiftmatic and I enjoyed driving in a sense it made me feel like I was driving by manual transmission. As it has many gear options, for instance when you have many luggages in the back, you can choose the best one. Ractis is suitable for driving in a city and highway.
The first impression of Ractis as a small car was reversed as soon as I got on the car. The interior is surprisingly spacious…perhaps the high ceiling contributed to it a bit. We mostly drove city streets of Tokyo, but the quiet engine sound and stability at the time of turns made us sit back and feel relaxed. Foot space of the passenger side is spacious for easy get on and off as well as the rear seats and luggage space in the back. I like it a lot.
